Google Ads Local Search Box

by Adam Killam on March 10, 2009

Google recently added a new local search box just above its search results page (SERPs) for certain terms. I noticed this box when doing a search for: public relations.

Anyone seen this box before? It seems to only show up only for certain terms which leads me to believe it’s a feature that’s currently being tested.

I’ve seen this box when searching for terms in the past such as restaurants and other terms that could easily be divided by location.

This is something that Google launched a while back in order to make your search results more relevant. If you see the box it means that Google does not remember where you set your default location. (Usually the case when you clear your cookies) If you do not see the box then it means that your search results have automatically been optimized to your default location.
